Makaela, who goes to Lee High School, is one of 14 Jacksonville young people who work at the zoo as a feature of its city-subsidized Wildlife Immersion and Leadership Development, or W.I.L.D., program. Begun in 2016, the adolescent work program joins authority advancement, open talking preparing and ponders in zoology and cultivation. Marquese Fluellen, 18, is in his second year. He has just been perceived by the North American Association for Environmental Education as one of the "30 Under 30," a program that perceives youthful people taking initiative positions in their locale to have any kind of effect for the planet.
"It's been an incredible affair," said Marquese, who goes to Wolfson High School. "I generally needed a profession in creature taking care of yet didn't know where to begin.
